In the last laps of winter, far before the bulbs--packs of hellebores erupt from the snow. Their slumped necks demurely conceal a face that could launch a 1,000 ships (from Japan or Holland). During full-bloom, when modesty gets thrown out the window in a contractor bag,- perfection reigns: freckles, double-petals, saturated veins, water-color hues, subtle gradients and an impossible palette of purple, pink and green... hail to the hellebore! queen of winter.
In this all-levels class we'll talk technique with an emphasis on mindfully constructing a floral composition. Through demonstration, discussion and the creation of their own masterpiece, students will gain a greater understanding of the relationships between color, texture and form... how best to honor each stem's unique constitution.
Class will be held at the new SAIPUA studio: 177 Dwight Street in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn. All materials including clippers, flowers and a vase will be provided. Light snacks and refreshments will be served through-out the class to sustain our creativity.
